So Long, My Charming Friends

The past six months were wonderful fun and I thank all my friends for coming here and reading my thoughts and looking at my wacky pictures and still liking me anyway (I hope).
I am nearing graduation and this final study and the process of getting my business up and running, leaves no time for snarky comments or the pondering of the world,
however
those who know me well can look for a blog attached to my new web site that will discuss organizing and decorating in a very charming way.

The Grim Reaper

It is raining today; cold blustery rain. I had hoped that the clouds would have emptied themselves after raining all day yeasterday, but they seem to have an un-ending supply of doom and gloom. Today I had planned on emptying all my summer floweres from their pots and storing the extra garden flags and do-dads in the garage. These floweres, mostly on their last legs, are an eyesore and that's my fault. I've been so busy that some of them may have died a premature death primarily from neglect.
Now though, with these two day s of rain the heardiest of them will surely perk back up. This, of course, only makes it harder to dump their newly greened leaves into a garbage bag.
So tomorrow, while most of you are reading the sunday paper or catching up on laundry, I'll be playing the part of the grim-reaper; hoping I'm being forgiven by the god-of-plants, where-ever she may be.

This morning I just happened to find this great blog Three Beautiful Things . It seemed a good-luck find on a dreary rainy Saturday morning.

Thinking it Over

Since my cultural study of mid-century women is over, I am contemplating what to do with this page and all of my seven or so readers. I am begining a new business and have just begun my last six months of school; needles to say it is a busy time. Add to that my kids sports schedules and our combined homework and well, you get the picture. I'll keep you updated...

I Have Been Away

I have been away, I'm still away for that matter, up in Vermont at school. I spend my days here, running around doing paperwork and trying to form my words into intelligent sounding sentences. I spend my evenings laying on my dorm room bed listening to the crickets and thinking about my husband and my kids at home.
Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful here; the town is postcard perfect, the campus, full of old brick buildings and thick-topped trees. I try not to wish it away too fast because the time I spend here working is also filled with irreplaceable conversations with my school friends.
But I find myself missing the cacophony of my house; the guinea pig chirping for a carrot, the microwave beeping, the storm door flumping closed every two minutes as the kids run in and out of the house. It's those little things, along with the few firey leaves I slip into my pockets as I walk across campus, that I keep in my heart until I get home.

Girls, It's The Perfect Chiffon Cake!

Posted by Picasa
On the second and last day of my hair-do, I spent four hours baking a Chiffon cake (Betty Crocker’s Picture Cook Book 1950). How could I spend four hours baking a cake? Well after my first fiasco you could say I was extra nervous. These jitters were probably the reason I had to throw away my first batch; I just couldn’t remember if I sifted the baking powder into the flour mixture or not. I also had no idea that beating egg whites with cream of tartar in order to get stiff white peaks could take so darn long. It was worth it though, the cake sailed out of the pan in one piece and I managed to spread my homemade icing without crumbs sticking all over the spatula.
I must say, for a capitol few minutes I felt like the queen of homemaking-land.
